SPS422 Microphone System + SP451 5.1 SoundField Decoder The SPS422B, used in conjunction with the SP451 Surround Processor, provides full 5.1 surround monitoring, recording and post production. A further two outputs on the SP451 facilitate expanded surround formats such as 6.1, 7.1 and ambisonics. The SPS422B/SP451 Decoder package is the least expensive studio SoundField 5.1 package. This package gets you balanced 5.1 and simultaneous stereo, M/S or mono in just 2 rack spaces. The package is composed of three parts, the SPS422B microphone, the SPS422B preamp/ processor system(1RU) and the SP451 multichannel decoder (1RU). Everything you need to get up and running today in 5.1 is included with this one of a kind mic package. Our package is set up for use within the US, at 115Volts AC. THE 422B MIC: The SoundField microphone part of this package is the same microphone as our top of the line SoundField Mark 5, so it offers the same sound, noise specs and performance of our very best system. THE 422B PREAMP/PROCESSOR: The SoundField 422B Preamp/Processor does three things: 1) provide you with (four) mic preamps, so there are no mic preamps to buy. 2) take the SoundField four capsule microphone raw output and assemble them in the user's chosen real time output forms (stereo, M/S or mono), all balanced. 3) deliver a seperate 4 channel "B Format" balanced output for archiving and/or sending in real time on to a Sp451 Multichannel Processor for 5.1 output. THE SP451 MULTICHANNEL PROCESSOR The Sp 451 processor takes a B Format input from any SoundField microphone/processor system or a B Format recording you already have and delivers 5.1 output using the Left, Center, Right, Surround Left, Surround Right format. You have a choice of the pattern of the 5 microphones via a three position MAP card switch on the front of the SP451, and a pre loaded 5 cardioid MAP card is the standard way SP451's are shipped. You can vary the front pair angle and the rear (surround) pair angle independently. If you work from a B Format recording, you can experiment over and over, achieving all kinds of variations. Imagine being able to experiment in the studio with a single mic that can deliver such a wide range of output forms. Everything from mono to unknown future delivery mediums is addressed with the SoundField system, for the B Format is a phase accurate 3 dimensional "picture" of any acoustical event. For imaging, the SoundField is unsurpassed. For tonal quality, the SoundField sounds very "neutral", and is on par with the finest of studio large diaphragm condensers.
